Roman Angel

My Mom and I went to Italy together about 10 years ago, and we loved Rome.  I've had in the back of my mind for a while to make something for her inspired by this piece of Kate Thompson's ever since I saw it.  So for her birthday this year I finally did it (one advantage of her currently not having Internet is I can post this even though I haven't given it to her yet!).

It occurred to me to take progressive pictures of it, I love when other people do and I've never thought of it in time to do it before.  These aren't at specific stopping points so much as just when I remembered.  It's plaster on cradled wood, and turned out to be more of a project than I anticipated, mostly because I kept changing my mind about what I wanted to do.

  1. Stunning - your mum is going to be bowled over by this! It's so interesting to see the piece develop - I just love what you've done with it, those little pieces of lace are gorgeous and the crackle effect is great. Truly beautiful.

  2. Oh my gosh Terri... this is absolutely stunning... and I love the progress pics... what an amazing gift... I am sure your Mom will adore it...

  3. I agree with Jenny! I LOVE this - the process is fascinating - I kept going back and forth from picture to picture. I love the crackle paste and the fabric and all of the depth you created. So elegant and beautiful. THANK you for sharing the steps, it's so cool to see, xoxo

  4. Oh, wow. You are not kidding! It's great to see the progression, especially when you enlarge the pictures. This is so pretty.

  5. Hi Terri

    How did I miss this?

Your mum is sure to love this.... I liked seeing the stages.

I love the crackle glaze and the turquoise blue colour is perfect!

  6. Thank you for your visit! Yes, she's totally spoiled, lol. Oh, well. :) Hope your Easter was a wonderful one! xoxo

  7. This Angel turned out beautifully! I think its good we change our minds - sometimes its a little stressful, but mostly it leads to really great things. I was browsing round your blog. Faces 28&29 were marvelous as well as that beautiful hummingbird.

  8. Thank you puddin' pop! (I don't know where that came from :) Thank you for your visit and have a wonderful Wednesday, xoxoxox!
